A Place For Quiet Rest

Finding a place for quiet rest is sometimes hard to come by, especially when we busy ourselves so much that we struggle to balance hectic lives.  From children or co-workers racing around us to everyday work stresses echoing in our ears, we come home only to crawl into bed, shut our eyes for what seems to be a brief moment, only to awake the next morning to do it all again.  Oh and lets not forget to throw in those trips to the doctors, grocery store, and top it all off with housework running out ears.  Even as I sit here typing, I glance over to see three lively children busy doing their thing.  The calmest of everyone is our 80 pound dog who is curled up with his tail tucked gently beneath his head.  He sleeps so peacefully against the wall, although life is actively going on all around him.

So, what's my point?  Well, as I sat here watching - I thought, wow, how simple it is that even a dog can quietly find a moment of quiet rest amongst the loud voices of children throughout the house and busy bodies all around.  And although his worries seem so minuit in comparison to our daily concerns ~ I can't help but wonder, is that the kind of simplicity God wants from us.  Have we made ourselves so busy that even the littlest of tasks become burdensome?

All God wants is for us to find a moment to talk with him, to sit in silence, and wait upon him.  Like Dakota, who found the time to walk over and curl up; how much more does God desire for us to take a time out, curl up, and draw near to him.  In the Women of Faith Study Bible an author writes, "God desires to hear you and answer you.  Go to him in prayer right now.  Throw off everything that hinders humility.  Enjoy God's presence, and believe that he hears and will answer you when you call out to him (2Ch 7:14; Ps 6:9)." (2001; Women of Faith, Zondervan, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Women of Faith NIV Study Bible, page 1599)

In Matthew 11:25-30, Jesus invites the "weary and burdened" to come to him for rest.  Take time today to find rest in the Lord.

May God be with you.

Faithfully Service,

~Missy
